Little Boy Dies after Pit bull Attack

May 8, 2014 by GNGF Leave a Comment

A dog attack can happen anywhere, it can be unexpected and potentially deadly.  Small children are especially at risk for life-threatening injuries after being attacked by an animal.

Unfortunately, a five-year-old child in Alabama recently died after injuries given to him by a neighbor’s pet pit bull.  The dog attacked the boy while he was playing in the backyard, according to the news report on the incident.

At the time of the attack, the dog was not on a leash or being restrained by the owner in any way.  Although the dog is only eight months old, he already weighed approximately between 80 and 100 pounds.  [Read more…]

Man’s best friend can be a joy to have around your home. Dogs provide companionship, an ear when you need to talk, and a wet kiss when you need a laugh.

Sometimes, however, other people’s dogs can pose a problem. Be it from fear, an aggressive disposition, or a past filled with owner abuse, canines can strike out at innocent victims, leaving serious dog bite wounds.

A recent article from The Wall Street Journal describes some signs that indicate when a dog is about to bite or attack.

According to the piece, almost five million dog bites occur each year in the United States. Obvious signs of an impending dog attack include growling, barking, or flat ears. [Read more…]

Dogfighting Raid In Northern Mississippi Leads To Dozens Of Arrests

April 1, 2013 by Philip Stroud Leave a Comment

Law enforcement officials in northern Mississippi have announced that they busted up a major dogfighting ring after launching a raid in Benton County, Mississippi, over the weekend.

The investigation began when the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation decided to cooperate in bringing down what they suspected was a large and organized dogfighting organization.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said that when the police arrived at the dogfight on Saturday night, at least 200 people from more than 15 states were in attendance with an admission price of $100 per person. Police say some of the attendees came from as far away as California to watch the brutal fight, a sign that police say indicates some of them are relatively high up in the dogfighting world. Mississippi Personal Injury Lawyer: Mississippi Dog Bite Claims Cost a Serious Chunk of Change

July 10, 2012 by Philip Stroud Leave a Comment

While dog bites may not grab headlines very often, it doesn’t mean they aren’t important. Animals still attack people, with the elderly and young children serving as primary victims of such attacks.

According to the CDC, every year there are roughly 4.7 million people who are bitten by dogs. Approximately 800,000 of those dog bites lead to a person seeking medical attention. Most shocking, about 16 people who are bitten by dogs also end up dying each year. [Read more…]

Memphis TN Dog Bite-Attack Results In Charge of Reckless Homicide of Pit Bull Owner

July 23, 2010 by Leave a Comment

A Memphis, TN woman, Sherry Wooten, 23, was charged with reckless homicide in the death of 71-year-old William Parker, who died of a heart attack after being attacked by pit bulls. Wooten was also charged with four counts of felony reckless endangerment in connection with attacks on four other people by the same dogs.

The pit bulls actually belonged to Bernard Humphrey, but Wooten, a friend of Humphrey, let the dogs loose on the day of the attacks. Police said Wooten was aware the animals were vicious. The pit bulls attacked Mr. Parker and his daughter, Gardenia Parker, after she ran to help him. Gardenia Parker said her life has been changed forever. “We have to wake up and live another day without him,” Parker said. [Read more…]
