What is the role of the prosecutor and should I voluntarily talk to them?
The prosecutor is the attorney for the state. The title of your case will actually be the state versus you. What you have to keep in mind is that the prosecutor represents the opposing party. They’re not on your side. It’s always better that you talk with a defense attorney who can in turn talk with the prosecutor on your behalf, instead of you actually talking with the prosecutor if possible. Just remember that what you say to the prosecutor is not privileged and can be used against you, just as if you’re talking to a police officer.
