A dog attack can happen anywhere, it can be unexpected and potentially deadly. Small children are especially at risk for life-threatening injuries after being attacked by an animal.
Unfortunately, a five-year-old child in Alabama recently died after injuries given to him by a neighbor’s pet pit bull. The dog attacked the boy while he was playing in the backyard, according to the news report on the incident.
At the time of the attack, the dog was not on a leash or being restrained by the owner in any way. Although the dog is only eight months old, he already weighed approximately between 80 and 100 pounds.
The boy’s older brother tried to intervene and the child was taken to the hospital immediately after the attack. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The dog was taken to an animal shelter and is being held there.
An autopsy will be conducted on the boy, and as of now, no charges have been pressed against the owner of the animal. This story is an extremely tragic example of how a dangerous animal can completely change the life—or even take the life—of a person.
The owner of this animal could face serious charges for the death of the child. If it is determined that the owner knew his or her dog was potentially dangerous or had a tendency to act aggressively toward other people, a wrongful death charge may be likely.
There are plenty of pet owners in Northern Mississippi and many of those pets are considered best friends. But, without proper training or restraint these animals could be dangerous even if they look friendly.
