What does it mean to “stack” insurance coverages?
Each jurisdiction is different, but in Mississippi, the law allows for a policy holder who carries uninsured or under-insured motorist coverage to stack his or her coverage depending on the number of vehicles that are insured at any given time. For instance, if a person is involved in an automobile accident with an uninsured motorist, and that person actually has more than 1 vehicle insured at the time, and has uninsured or under-insured motorist coverage, they can take the coverage for 1 vehicle and add it to the coverage for the second vehicle to, in many situations, double the coverage available to them under their uninsured or under-insured motorist policy.
