Fortunately for one of the individuals, his injuries were minor. However, the other individual, a Panola County resident, was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, out of a total number of traffic fatalities in Mississippi in 2008 of 783, 503 were one car accidents. Often times the cause for one car accidents, as well as other serious accidents, is because the driver falls asleep. This is often the case for commercial truck drivers that have spent hours behind the wheel without adequate time for rest. The temptation for over the road truck drivers to push forward in the face of fatigue can unfortunately lead to serious automobile accidents and unnecessary injuries.
The roadway can be a dangerous place. If you find yourself involved in an accident with a commercial trucking company, it is important to conduct an early and thorough investigation into the cause of the accident. Certain items of evidence need to be requested and preserved, such as: driving logs, safety checklists, fueling receipts, repair and maintenance records, etc. Obtaining these items early on in the case, may make the difference between a solid case and a case that is lacking in proof.
