A dog attack can happen anywhere, it can be unexpected and potentially deadly. Small children are especially at risk for life-threatening injuries after being attacked by an animal.
Unfortunately, a five-year-old child in Alabama recently died after injuries given to him by a neighbor’s pet pit bull. The dog attacked the boy while he was playing in the backyard, according to the news report on the incident.
At the time of the attack, the dog was not on a leash or being restrained by the owner in any way. Although the dog is only eight months old, he already weighed approximately between 80 and 100 pounds. [Read more…]

Desoto County Soil and Water Conservation District has continued to promote green land by giving away trees as part of the annual tree giveaway program.
The agency’s yearly giveaway has been going on for 30 years and has given away hundreds of thousands of trees to be planted all around the community. Just this year, more than 15,000 trees were donated, according to a recent article on the event.
This year, the agency held three tree giveaways in four separate locations—more citizens had the opportunity to receive some trees than ever before. DeSoto County’s unemployment rate remains the lowest in three to five counties in the state of Mississippi, and the work to find available employment is still underway. According to an article in the DeSoto Times-Tribune, even though employment is up, state services are still available to both the employer and the potential new hire to find each other.
The DeSoto County WIN Job Center director told the Southaven Rotary Club in the article that most people with adequate work qualifications have jobs and that, even though there are still people looking for jobs, the unemployment rate is low. [Read more…]
