February 18, 2014 by GNGF Leave a Comment

Your head may be throbbing, but your body can’t handle as much Advil as you are tempted to take.

The popular painkiller acetaminophen—which can be found in over the counter products such as Extra Strength Tylenol and Advil  — is raising cause for concern. According to the recent article in USA Today, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) plans to implement regulatory action on over-the-counter acetaminophen. [Read more…]

Report Reveals ER Visits Related to Energy Drink Consumption Double Over Four-Year Period

January 24, 2013 by Leave a Comment

A recent report by the federal government contained startling information regarding injuries related to the consumption of energy drinks. The report revealed that the number of people seeking emergency room treatment after consuming such energy drinks had doubled over the past four years. The surge in ER visits is likely tied to a corresponding increase in popularity for the drinks, especially among young people.

Between 2007 and 2011, the government estimates that the number of ER visits related to the energy drinks increased from 10,000 to more than 20,000. The vast majority of these cases involved teens and young adults. The report does not clarify exactly what symptoms prompted the people to seek treatment, but it does label energy drinks a “rising public health problem.” The report says that consumption of such beverages can lead to insomnia, nervousness, headaches, fast heartbeats and even seizures in some rare instances. Major retailer with Mississippi locations under fire for tainted products

June 4, 2012 by GNGF Leave a Comment

Most Mississippians believe that when they purchase products from a major national retailer they don’t need to worry about the safety of what they’ve bought. We expect the retailer will be trustworthy with their labeling and that they will insure what they sell is safe. Sadly this is not always the case. As the Huffington Post reported recently, the well-known sports and nutrition retailer, GNC, is under fire for selling unsafe products, and may possibly be liable for fraud as well as negligence relating to a major products liability claim.

The lawsuit against GNC was brought by Lynette Bates, a Southern California woman who bought a pre-exercise drink powder called C4 Extreme last summer. The compound, 1,3-dimethylamylamine, also known as DMAA, is “illegal and dangerous,” according to the complaint. [Read more…]
