Bananas Are the Least of Your Concerns When It Comes to Slip and Falls

April 14, 2015 by Leave a Comment

Bananas Are the Least of Your Concerns When It Comes to Slip and FallsOn Saturday mornings, my family would gather around and watch as Looney Tunes villains targeted our favorite characters with anchors and bombs and laugh as Bugs Bunny and friends would retaliate with none other than…banana peels. Rather, the origin of the dangerous banana began in the early 1900s when the popular fruit peel would be left on the ground to rot and create a slimy, slippery hazard, according to the Myth Busters on Discovery. Settlement Reached with Ole Miss in Death of Southaven Football Player

October 2, 2013 by GNGF Leave a Comment

As an experienced wrongful death attorney in Northern Mississippi, it pains me to see youth in our state have their lives cut short. I’m sure you’ve heard of the death of University of Mississippi football player Bennie Abram III during a February 2010 football practice.

Abram grew up in Southaven, Mississippi, where our office is located. His parents, Bennie and Erma Abram, sued Ole Miss in 2011 over the wrongful death of their son.

Recently, a settlement was finally reached, in which the family received $50,000 from Ole Miss and another $275,000 from an NCAA insurance policy, according to an USA Today report. [Read more…]

Fresenius GranuFlo linked to cardiac failure?

August 29, 2013 by GNGF Leave a Comment

You may have heard of some of the Fresenius GranuFlo© cases across the Northern Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee metro areas. These are class action suits based upon claims made by patients and patients’ families relating to cardiac failure after receiving dialysis at various Fresenius dialysis clinics.

Mississippi Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Case About Criminal Charges For Stillbirths

April 1, 2013 by GNGF Leave a Comment

In an especially tragic case out of Jackson, Mississippi, a woman is appealing her case to the State Supreme Court after being prosecuted for the stillborn death of her child.

The case involves a woman, Nina Buckhalter, who suffered a stillbirth back in 2010. Doctors said that the stillbirth likely occurred because of Buckhalter’s drug use, specifically, because of cocaine. A lower court in Lamar County threw out the charge against Buckhalter, saying there was no evidence that the Mississippi legislature intended to criminalize drug use by pregnant women that might harm their children.

However, prosecutors are arguing that the charge of culpable manslaughter against Buckhalter should be reinstated and that the woman should stand trial. The Supreme Court decided to hear the case and will begin oral arguments later this week. [Read more…]
